NCLA EDUCATION GRANT
One of the goals of the Nassau County Library Association is “to work toward a higher standard of service and performance, continuing education and development at all levels of employment in libraries. To promote the recognition of the dignity and value of such employment…” To this end, NCLA has created the EDUCATION GRANT PROGRAM that will provide financial assistance for continuing education in library related courses.
Each year a minimum of three awards of up to $500 each will be available to reimburse recipients for tuition and/or costs for library related conferences that will not be reimbursed by a library or any other agency.
WHO MAY APPLY?
Any NCLA member in any division of the Association currently employed in a library or library related institution. The EDUCATION GRANT PROGRAM will reimburse the recipient for courses taken and/or library related conferences attended prior to or within six months of the approval date of the grant award and satisfactory proof of completion of the course or attendance at the conference. The closing date for applications to the EDUCATION GRANT PROGRAM will be September 8 of the application year.
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING FOR THE NCLA EDUCATION GRANT PROGRAM?
The applicant must complete the Education Grant application form and include documentation about the course and/or library-related conference for which he/she is seeking reimbursement.
The applicant must also submit a letter from his/her supervisor at a library or library-related institution stating that the course and/or conference is library-related and costs will not be reimbursed by the library or institution.
If the applicant has already taken the course or attended the conference within the six months prior to the approval date of the grant award, he/she should also submit satisfactory proof of such. If the applicant intends to take the course or attend the conference within the next six months, he/she will need to submit satisfactory proof of completion or attendance before the grant money is actually paid to the applicant.
HOW WILL THE NCLA EDUCATION GRANT PROGRAM BE GIVEN OUT?
An Education Grant Program Committee is designated each year by the NCLA President and is made up of the president and a minimum of four members of the executive Board of the Nassau County Library Association, as well as a member of the Continuing Education Committee of NCLA. This Committee will review applications and determine the recipients of the grants. The Committee reserves the right not to give out a grant if insufficient applications are received.
A recipient of a grant is not eligible for another Education Grant until two years have passed after receiving an Education Grant.
WHEN ARE THE NCLA EDUCATION GRANTS GIVEN OUT?
The Education Grant winner(s) will be notified by November 3rd. Formal announcement will made be at the NCLA Annual Dinner. Payment of monies will be made upon the Committee’s receipt of satisfactory proof of completion of the continuing education course or attendance at the conference, along with copies of cancelled checks for course or conference costs.
